This is a public art project made possible by Levi’s, a moving platform for artistic experimentation, the train’s journey from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Coast stopping at nine different locations from major cities to off-the-grid spots.
The first update is from New York. A day full performances from Ariel Pink, Kansas City Marching Cobras, Yoshimio, Suicide, No Age and Paul Wiliams Selects.
The Doug Aitken designed train is a cultural studio broadcasting content and experiences from the stops and on the moving train. Started from New York on September 6th, 2013, the train will be soon arriving its 4th stop, Minneapolis/St. Paul.
Rapper SefNice and TV-Host Tess Milne attending the Station to Station for the Dutch front. What we heard from them is „Sleep can wait!”.
Keep in touch for the update. My next visual update is from Pittsburgh.
Don’t forget to find the video impression of this event on my Facebook page.
About the location: Riverfront Studios, Brooklyn, NY
New York is the site of the launch of Station to Station. Performers appearing in New York include No Age, Suicide, Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti, YOSHIMIO (OOIOO / Boredoms) & Hisham Akira Bharoocha (Soft Circle / Boredoms) & Ryan Sawyer (Lonewolf) TRIO, and others to be announced.
Also appearing are The Kansas City Marching Cobras, a unique, region-specific African American marching band that merges traditional dance with aspects of voodoo. Station to Station is bringing this dynamic group to New York, as well as to Pittsburgh, for an energetic, disruptive performance.
Renowned choreographer and media artist Jonah Bokaer will present AIRLOCKS, an original trio that will perform a work inspired by Robert Rauschenberg’s debut choreographic work, Pelican (1963), on the occasion of work’s 50th anniversary.
Rirkrit Tiravanija, known for his participatory and performative installations, will hand out a surprise to guests, while Olaf Breuning will create a site-specific Technicolor smoke installation.
