The Best Things to Do in Key West From Day to Night

Style blogger Tommy Lei takes us to Key West, Florida for 24 hours of luxury, dining, and adventure at the Gates Hotel.

A day in the life of a Key West tourist inside and out of The Gates Hotel - come travel and get ready with me.

Less than two weeks ago, I was whisked away to the tiny islands of Key West - approximately 4 hours away from the shores of Miami and South Beach.

The long drive was well worth every second and a thousand words as we were exposed to sweeping ocean views and the beautiful wildlife that inhabited the region's varied terrain.

Upon checking into the beautiful luxury boutique resort, The Gates Hotel, we knew we were in for a trio of a lifetime in paradise.

Here's a day in and out recap of my itinerary as a Key West tourist:

10:30 AM - Everyday was an occasion to sleep-in. I wake up to the warm rays of the Floridian sun and naturally check this handy tablet provided in every suite room at The Gates. It’s basically your own personal concierge without the wait.

Billy Reid x KSWISS canvas slip-ons + Versace gold studded leather sneakers

11:00AM - Finally ready to get ready after spending some time to check my emails (eep - it was hard to avoid work, even on the most leisurely of vacations). I have a tendency to wake early but it was tough not to luxuriate especially on this extremely comfortable bed.

11:25AM - This is where the day really starts with a “light” brunch and mimosas, courtesy of The Blind Pig - a modern gourmet food truck just a few steps away.

12:00PM - We set out into the Downtown area of Key West, a short drive away from the hotel, to jumpstart our bucket-list itinerary namely at the Hemingway House. This historical home once belonged to Ernest Hemingway, the famed American author but troubled soul of classic novels like “A Farewell to Arms” and “A Moveable Feast”. He would be considered a minimalist in terms of his writing style and impact on American literature. The home serves as a reminder of his legacy, in addition to housing a plethora of stray cats.

1:30PM - Shortly after refueling on some fresh coconut water - literally just across the straight from the Hemingway House - we made our trek to the Fury West outpost, where we began our parasailing adventure. I agreed to it because I’ve always wanted to conquer my fear of heights. The moment we ascended, my fears were still very much present. However, the panoramic views gradually put that to rest allowing me to appreciate the enormity of nature’s true beauty and majestic nature. It was not only a humbling moment but a truly memorable one as well. #YOLO

3:45PM - After an exhaustive parasailing session, we made our way back to the hotel for the rest of the day. Decompression means lounging by the pristine poolside, imbibing yummy cocktails and indulging in some scrumptious bites (that flatbread is divine tho).

6:15PM - Drenched and sun-dazed, we lethargically make our way into town again. A quick outfit change into this Bellen Brand piece and Haati Chai body chain ensues right beforehand. I swear, all we ate was seafood and more seafood. We were told to try the conch fritters - they’re a little too chewy for something I thought would be more crisp and satisfying. Oh well - here’s to trying everything at least once!

9:12PM - We find ourselves back at the hotel after sufficiently stuffing ourselves. A night cap is, of course, much-needed in the form of spontaneous spa nights. If you haven’t yet, check out Aesop’s Primose Facial Cleansing Masque. It smells great and a thin layer goes a long way. Our pores were so tightened and magnified by the end - it was grossly satisfying. Love it.

12:10AM - And good night.

This is just a mere tease of our days in Key West - stay tuned as the following posts will focus specifically on different parts of my island adventures!
Thank you to The Gates Hotel for your accommodations and hospitality. Shout out to my fellow blogger bae - Stephanie Liu of HoneyNSilk - and NhuNhu for the amazing company + photography. Content is purely produced and based on my opinion.
