I had the pleasure of spending some time at Union Garage this summer and getting to know owner Chris Lesser. One of the first things that strikes you about the guy is how passionate he is about riding, but on top of that, how passionate he is about being protected, being comfortable, and still looking good. Anybody who rides knows how hard it is to balance those three. Union Garage has done a great job of finding brands that meet that criteria, but it wasn’t enough. They had to go and make their own damn fine jacket as well. Meet the Robinson Jacket.
The Robinson was built in collaboration with Vanson Leathers. Made in America, the jacket boasts many features to facilitate both comfort and safety. Hidden leather panels built into the Robinson jacket’s elbows and shoulders offer extra abrasion resistance in a crash, and impact protection is provided via fully adjustable and easily removable CE-certified D3O armor inserts at the shoulders, elbows and back. The jacket’s rugged 10.10-ounce Martexin waxed cotton shell provides a water-resistant barrier that breathes well, is built to last and only gets better with age.
One of the most prominent characteristics of the Robinson isn’t one particular feature. It’s the accumulation of features that are rider specific. Take, for example, the rabbit pocket that is built into the back of the jacket. Accessible by discreet side zippers on either side of the jacket, this massive pass-through pocket can hold a pair of gloves, an extra layer, or an entire Sunday New York Times if needed. Or the large diagonal chest pocket that’s perfectly positioned so that it’s accessible without letting go of the throttle. The Robinson is available on Union Garage’s website as well as in store for $699. It comes in both black and tan and includes the D3O armor kit.
