Tommy Hilfiger Surf Shack Capsule Collection and Custom Surfboard Collaboration
Tommy Hilfiger threw an event at No 8 in NYC to launch their Surf Shack capsule collection and commemorate the collaboration they did with a handful of artists customizing different types of limited edition surfboards. Some of the artists featured included Lola Schnabel, Richard Phillips, Scott Campbell, Gary Simmons, and Raymond Pettibon. These definitely aren’t surfboards you would ever use, but you can purchase them from the back of the touring Surf Shack bus across North America and select Hilfiger stores worldwide.
I liken these to my own personal non-functional sports art-boards I have hanging on my walls - Supreme skateboards customized by Takashi Murakami and Mr. I’ll never put trucks and wheels on these but I’ll enjoy them just as much on my wall. Kudos to Hilfiger for extending the brand beyond clothing and into the lifestyle.
When commenting about the capsule collection and art collaboration Tommy Hilfiger had this to say: “The collection represents the Tommy Hilfiger brand’s love of blending East Coast prep with West Coast cool, and I’m honored to have the artists’ surfboards included in the program. Art plays a significant role in my own design process and I’m always inspired to collaborate with great artistic talent.” We’ll be looking forward to more artistic collaborations.
