[Note from Mantic59: Sharpologist has recently had some articles on trimming facial hair. But what about shaving a beard off completely? Kat Smith offers some opinions.]
Some guys brave the summer with beard intact, even when temperatures sky rocket to the 90’s and above. Some guys, however, know the annoyance and trouble a beard can bring when the warm weather comes about. So what is a lad to do?
First you have a decision to make, to shave or not to shave. You want to make this decision early because if you spend any amount of time in the sun pre-shave you may end up with a farmer’s tan on your face.
If you’ve decided you are ready for a clean face, rather than just a trim, here are some tips to help you get a good shave and transition from beard to no bear so that you can have a summer free of face sweat, stinky beard, and itchiness.
Trim It Up First
Before you even attempt to share your beard you can save yourself a lot of time and trouble by trimming it up first and giving your razor much less work to do. The rule to go by here is that if your beard is more than a half an inch long you’re safer trimming it up first in order to prevent more cuts and nicks.
Shave After The Shower
Shaving after you take a shower does a lot of great things for you. It helps open up your pores, make your skin hydrated, make your hair softer, and it’s a great safety net for those with facial acne.
Even if you aren’t usually prone to facial acne you could have developed some under your beard and you want to make sure you don’t make them worse, or cause scarring when you shave. You want your skin well moisturized and clean, so that is why a shower first is a great idea.
Have The Proper Products On Hand
While most guys may not be all that hip to fashion tips, Crave Online has some that will give you a step up on your beard care, or its removal. According to one of their recent posts, skin care products can be really useful to men, including (and maybe especially) those with facial hair.
Once your beard comes off you are more than likely going to be battling some dry skin, so you want to make sure you have some great products that help you with your aftershave issues. You want natural products so you know they are good for your skin, and if you have acne or sensitive skin you’ll need products that cater to this, so it’s important to do some research before you shave.
Summer is here, so make sure your fresh and beardless face is healthy and looking good. You’ll collect less sweet corn and bbq in your beard if you at least keep it trimmed short for the summer, and you won’t have to worry about the affects of chlorine in the pool if you just shave it off. You can always start growing your facial hair back when autumn arrives!
