Dry hair is not a hair type—it's a condition that can be treated. Most people, male or female, at some point will suffer from dry hair. To alleviate the problem, first find out what's stripping the hair of their natural oils. This could be environmental factors: overexposure to the sun, swimming, extreme cold followed by overheated indoors can all dehydrate hair which can make it parched and dry.
Although the most commonly known rule around hair care is lather, rinse, repeat - frequent shampooing strips the natural moisture from the hair. You should actually only wash your hair with shampoo when it needs it unless it gets dirty at work or if you exercise, every two or three days may be enough. When shampooing you must rinse thoroughly, as shampoo residue can cause hair to look dull and lifeless. Avoiding hot water, as well during the shampooing and rinsing process, will do your hair good as hot water can dry the hair.
After each shampoo follow with a moisturizing conditioner. Massage gently through out the hair so all strands are coated, then leave in your hair for five minutes before rinsing thoroughly. which softens and helps maintain natural moisture. Condition your hair in the shower to provide moisture, even on the days you don't shampoo, due to the shampoo striping the scalp of natural oils.
You hair should also be deep conditioned weekly, to boost moisture and provide nourishment. Massage a hair mask through your hair with your fingers, then comb to distribute evenly. Then leave for up to three hours, shower and condition. Your ends are the most fragile part of your hair so always concentrate your mask there as they are most likely the part that needs the most loving.
