Confession: I have developed a serious addiction with scented candles. It’s been burning strongly for the past two years, and I am finally coming clean just in time for Mother’s Day. Continue reading if you want to know why.
For someone who works from home, I’ve come to appreciate the presence of scented candles for more reasons than the obvious. Yes, they smell nice, function well as decorative pieces and almost become essentials when there’s a blackout in the neighborhood. I personally can’t get enough of them because it provides my work day with a sense of immediate calm. Especially when paired with a moody Soundcloud mix or Spotify playlist. It keeps my day going at a steady pace and brings so much clarity when everything else is moving at a frenetic pace. Watching the candle burn is also incredibly meditative.
More importantly, scented candles make ideal gifts for any occasion. I went ahead, vetted through several candle brands and burnt through a couple of dozen to recommend you my favorites. You’re welcome. With Mother’s Day coming up so soon, these candles not only make distinct gifts but are very special in their own right.
Founded by Tashah Johnson, Candlessentials soy-based wax candles are hand poured and specially packaged here in Los Angeles. Both Pure and Bold Awakening are my absolute favorites from the brand - each scent is uniquely designed to invigorate your senses throughout the day. (There is also a scents sampler for the indecisive.) In addition to being a 100% natural soy candle, Candlessentials are sustainably packaged in a plantable box that blooms into beautiful wildflowers. I don’t know about you - but I can’t wait to plant mine! Talk about the gift that keeps on giving.
Based in a land not too far away (Orange County), Voluspa has been a long-standing epitome of the modern luxury, scented candle. Their scents are intricately layered and so are the decorative designs the candles reside in. My current favorite scents from their collection are the French Cade & Lavender + Goji Tarocco Orange. Both scents are divine and will engulf your room within an hour or two of burning. Almost as if you’re walking through endless patches of fresh meadows filled with life. The best part is that Voluspa candles burn slow, so you can really maximize its longevity.
Limited-Edition Patek Philippe Candle
This rare scented candle, made on behalf of the Patek Philippe, was a beloved gift that I received at one of the brand’s launch event receptions. While it is not available for sale to the public (I only have two of these in my possession), I still believe it’s worth talking about due to its fragrant and flagrant rose scent. I love it when a scented candle doubles as a diffuser - and this particular one smells as if you walked into a rose garden.
In celebration of Mother’s Day, Candlessentials and I have partnered up to give away a hand-selected package of scented candles to one winner. I’ll personally be adding on a Voluspa Goji Tarocco Orange candle as a bonus. Simply enter by completing the steps via Gleam. This giveaway ends on Thursday, 5/7 at 11:59PM (PST). Good luck and Happy Mother’s Day!
