The central theme of Billy Reid’s Fall 2014 Mens Collection is outerwear and how it inserts itself into a gentleman’s everyday ready-to-wear wardrobe. Basic, military bomber jackets and everyday suiting are paired with soft cardigans, tailored trousers and other separates to create a balance between the hard and soft of the metropolitan’s man life. Incorporating strong, luxe fabrics, such as camel alpaca, Reid’s is able to show his strongest skill, which is creating texture as seen in the constructed blazers, floor length blankets and voluminous vests.
Beiges, creams and taupes are the primary palette and dominate most of the knitwear, which include a heavy crew neck sweater, tweed trouser, houndstooth blazer and a sort of oversized shirting. The more Reid experiments with texture, the more we fall in love with ready-to-wear all over again!
