architecture modern residence A young family living in the outskirts of Vilnius, Lithuania, challenged YCL Studio to come up with a modern design for what is now known as Pavilny Residence. The 117-square-meter semi-detached house impresses, thanks to its feeling of space and stylish palette in black, white, gray and walnut tones.

With everyday living items put away from sight beneath clever storage solutions, this place feels uncluttered and exceptionally minimalist — so much so that as you enter, you get a feeling of being inside an inviting workspace rather than a constantly inhabited home.

Here is a short excerpt from the official project description, as provided by the architects: “Areas on the first floor are connected with pleasuring texture stone tiles while private sleeping zones on the second floor are covered in warm oak parquet. The floors are linked through modeled concrete stairs in plastic finish. Dining area enhanced by levitating table invites all the family and their friends to enjoy memorable dinners together. Daylight fills the house as an uninvited, yet pleasant guest.”

What is your opinion on this type of design approach? Do you find this minimalist home appealing? [Photography by Andrius Stepankevičius]
