Cruising the open road on a motorcycle. It’s the dream of many men but one realized by so few.
Ever since you saw The Motorcycle Diaries you’ve been thinking about buying a beat up motorcycle and setting off on an epic cross-continent journey, and who knows, maybe starting a revolution. But you know, life gets in the way and cross-continent journeys and revolutions get put on hold. The good news is, there’s now a much easier way to turn your motorcycle driving fantasies into a reality — and it involves top of the line bikes and a guide to lead the way.
Enter The Roadery: a Los Angeles based motorcycle tour provider offering 1 to 8 night jaunts through the American West. Once they hook you up with an awesome motorcycle, you and your biker posse will hit the open road to take in the deserts of Southern Utah, the cliffs of the California coastline, and the epic splendors of the nation’s most awe-inspiring parks. With hotels, gas, and National Park entrance fees covered in the cost of your tour, all you have to do is ride. You’ll even get a sweet custom tour video highlighting the best moments from your trip which will serve as proof of how cool you look riding a motorcycle.
The only big decision The Roadery will ask you to make, is which of their 9 tours you want to take. Are you in the mood to drive up the Pacific Coast Highway and along the cliffs of Big Sur? Or maybe you’d rather check out the Grand Canyon or Zion National Park? The deserts of California are on offer too. If you’re feeling extra adventurous, you can even head out on a self-guided tour. But don’t get ahead of yourself. Here are 2 guided itineraries to get you thinking:
Deserts & Mountains
2 Days / 1 Night - 494 Miles / 795 Kilometers
Perfect for the weekend rider, this trip will take you from Los Angeles, up the Pacific Coast Highway, through Topanga Canyon, over the winding roads of the San Gabriel Mountains, and into the desert where you’ll spend the night in the town of Twentynine Palms.
The next day you’ll rise early for an epic ride through Joshua Tree National Park where you’ll experience the Mojave Desert in all its blazing hot glory. From there you’ll take a mountain drive through the San Bernardino National Forest and wind up back in LA. Cost: starting at $649 per person
Las Vegas – Yosemite – San Francisco
4 Days / 3 Nights - 695 Miles (1118 Kilometers)
This one-way trip departing from Las Vegas and ending in San Francisco is perfect for the rider looking to cover serious ground and see some of the world’s most beautiful sights. You’ll depart Las Vegas early in the morning and head for Mammoth Lakes, California. Along the way you’ll make a stop at the lowest elevation in the Western Hemisphere, Death Valley, to experience total peace and quiet. Destroy that peace and quite as you start your engine again and continue on your way to Mammoth Lakes through Sequoia National Park.
The next day and night will take you North to Yosemite National Park where you’ll experience nature and natural beauty at its finest. After you pick your jaw up off the ground (it’s that beautiful) you’ll depart for San Francisco. A ride through Marin County will take you to Sausalito, an almost too perfect seaside town looking over the San Francisco Bay and the city’s skyline. With the end in sight, you’ll hop back on your hog and head over the Golden Gate Bridge into San Francisco. Cost: Starting at $1,299 per person.
You Will Need
1) A motorcycle license
If you don’t have one, you’ve probably thought about getting one at some point. Why not use a trip with The Roadery as an excuse to finally go through with it?
If you’re new to the game, you might first want to take a motorcycle training course. Find a training course near you.
Recommended (I’m just assuming based on the photos)
1) A vintage leather jacket to make it look like you do this all the time
2) A pair of blue jeans
3) Dark sunglasses
* Select guided tours come with a follow car to hold your luggage.
