Music Suggestion: Mighty Oaks – Just One Day
Cows, cats, and panel caps. A weekend in Rocanville (at my lovely girlfriend’s stomping grounds) keeps me in touch with my country mouse side, as well as immensely improves my couch game. A relaxing weekend in March consisted of March Madness, snaps around the yard, and torturing the Cat (who just happens to be our guest feature for this article, don’t worry, he’s got thick skin). Growing up in the city, and living in the city, I missed the rural atmosphere and the rugged feel of being ‘on the farm.’ Tough skin? I still grew up mean. Kidding, I love the city life, but I also love the times I can truce to the prairies, pop a few Reactine, and badger Ooby, Lou Morgan, Bernardo, the Meow Meow, or whatever name you can muster up for Candy Cane Tail himself, the cat (see below).
Style is less demanding in the country. Ties, pocket squares, blazers, all the accessories I frequent become obsolete. The rugged feel rubs off and inspires outfits like this – button downs, layered with zip hoodies and puffy vests. No one’s checking to see if you put your panel cap on, but you likely skipped a shower and it still keeps the sun out of your eyes. Your well worn sneakers will do, as well as a heavy set denim in whatever wash you please. Be sure to pose deceivingly next to a wood stack and an axe so everyone thinks you’re a hard working man on your weekends off. Outfit details below.
