With a prime location across from the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge, Lavender Bay Boatshed refuses to lose to the famous architectural marvels. Designed by Stephen Collier Architects, the renovations to the boatshed include a modified roof that not features a skylight highlighting the staircase core of the building. Inspiration was drawn from the curves of a boat’s construction, and the curve walls of the staircase and neighboring rooms create the same spatial sensation. Non-traditional angles and geometries may have led to the dead cat spaces only noticeable in plan, but the disorientation upon traveling from room to room makes the space exciting and labyrinthine. Framed views and mosaic tiling complete the wooden interiors with a fresh and modern feel.
