Junya Watanabe is cut from the same cloth as his mentor Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garcons, so one can safely assert that everything he puts out is imbued with the highest levels of innovation and creativity. Since 1993, Watanabe has been blessing his loyal followers with clothes that defy normal classification, both in technique and design. But unlike other, perhaps less-skilled designers, who take the concept of "avant-garde" as a license to make unwearable clothes, Watanabe's garments are made to be worn, and not to be used as costumes.

For the Junya Watanabe 2014 fall collection, the design factor has been turned all the way up. A cardigan is never just a cardigan, button-up shirts become blank canvasses for unfiltered creativity and quilted jackets & full-length parkas combine function and fashion like never before. It's really inspiring to see everyday clothes through the eyes of a true visionary, and once again, Mr. Watanabe is very much on top of his game.
