Quick preface: I’m giving away a suit just like this (and a tailoring experience valued at $100). So if you’re inclined to learn how, carry on! I’m always looking for ways to spruce up a suit from the expected. And for this 1970’s retro / quasi-Cubano look starring this navy William Rast number, I went the other way and dressed it down: untucked and open floral print shirt, grey cotton tank, quirky camel dress shoes. There’s a boldness about it with a slight nonchalance, and the tailoring tames the look for that modern stamp of approval. It’s a step up from casual to make special nights at jazz clubs or piano bars more fun, but less stuffy than a dinner at an overpriced midtown restaurant. Mike and I ventured into Harlem on West 125th Street to capture the aura of this look, coincidentally rewarding ourselves with sandwiches and burgers at Harlem’s Floridita Cuban Cuisine right after. Maybe we got a little too into the inspiration during lunch? Nah.
Here’s how you can win this suit and a tailoring experience at Lord & Taylor (where I got my suit tailored). All you have to do is follow @talunzeitoun and @williamrastofficial on Instagram, and comment on this post with two tagged friends. I’ll personally announce a winner on Wednesday, May 13th. And no sweat, if there isn’t a department story near you, we’ll send you a $100 American Express gift card to get it done. And if you’re feeling extra ambitious, comment below with what you think about this look… I’m curious!
