The ideal man doesn’t exist but that didn’t stop Guerlain creating their L’Homme Idéal masterpiece. Scenting him into existence was one thing, Guerlain is now trying its hand at creating the ideal husband.
I’m addicted to Guerlain L’Homme Idéal, not because it embodies the perfect man but since it speaks to me on a olfactory level. It’s rich, textured, evokes emotions, comforting and blends into my persona so effortlessly I couldn’t not fall in love. Guerlain L’Homme Ideal Cologne is the new challenger approaching with a slightly different approach, no longer the ideal man but ideal husband. There’s something poetic about trying to scent a husband, if it were any lesser house they would have made a mockery of it but not Guerlain.
Charming, energetic and loyal are the key words associated with husband material, also the three stages one goes through with this cologne. Energetic with a citrus burst of grapefruit, orange and bergamot to chime those wedding bells. Much fresher than the first, one still instantly recognizes the charming almond-neroli core that gives it a slight sweet gourmand vibe. My skin completely skips on the sharp freshness of bergamot after 5 minutes. It’s glorious oranges with pink pepper sharpness and that pulse of almonds with a strong vetiver and white musk undertone, quite loyal and going the distance for the entire day. Once it settles it stays close to the skin and remains there for over 12 hours.
Guerlain’s Thierry Wasser went for Indian vetiver as a pillar of this new scent and lacquered the bottle white this time around, a chic suit to match a zen state of mind. We carry a scent with us during the day so let it speak for itself and the rest will follow. I love the original but I concur it’s quite heavy for some people, this more citrus inspired version still pleases us guys but gives a fresher take on being the one.
