I think LSoD has seen its fair share of Scandinavian brands of late, but this is reflective of the menswear market at the moment. With a trend lifestyle focus onto the Scandi regions, both within design, fashion and music so we are becoming more exposed within the industry. Brand 8 is the latest attention grabber from Denmark, a casual menswear label born and raised in Copenhagen in 2009. It is based in the Scandinavian design tradition focusing on quality, functionality and simplicity with a straightforward, usable apparel made to move. Uncomplicated clothing with an honest approach towards materials, quality and use, it is built on the new classics of our time; casual- and street wear silhouettes adapted and fitted for contemporary active life in the city. Comfortable, easy to wear and with a perfect fit, it features lots of graphic prints and artist co-lab illustrations that are rooted for our digital generation.

The AW14 collection, entitled City Surfaces focuses on the seasonal offering of outerwear, sweats, knits, along side shirts, tees, pants and accessories. I really like the heavy low crouch chinos and woven track pants teamed with oversize tees, wool bombers and technical nylon padded jackets - urban and achingly cool. The collection is inspired by moving city surfaces such as stairways and high rises where steady light and running shadows bounce off urban space textures and colours. The prints show optical lines, signs and symbols which are just right for our time and a focus on the growing importance of digital. The images are shot at Brøndby Strand Parks, a housing project build in the seventies containing a large area of high rise blocks in the South-West Copenhagen suburb Brøndby. I hope you agree the contrasted beauty of the tall dark concrete buildings rising into the grey sky capture the shady mood and the architectonic aesthetics of the collection.
