I remember like 3 years back when I first got some TOMS. I called em “ninja shoes,” cause, man, thems things were light, sneaky, and ninja-esque. Of course, there was the factor of good accounted into the situation that got me hooked on the brand initially. And TOMS hasn’t strayed whatsoever from their mission of making the world a better place.
I was unaware until recently that the second Thursday in October World Sight Day. This is an annual day of awareness to focus global attention on blindness and vision impairment. That’s awesome. I couldn’t imagine not being able to see the waves crash and the sun set. So anything we can do to help perhaps restore the sight of those without… that’s a step in the right direction.
I wanted to be a part of something good for like, a couple times in my life. So… TOMS sent me a set of these Limited Edition Phoenix shades-for-good ($55) and, let me tell you that not only are they doing good worldwide, they fit better than most shades I have. That said, here’s to TOMS and raising awareness about a great cause with a company that gets it and is actually making a positive impact on the world.. the world that needs some.
A few quick stats for reference:
- · 285 million people are visually impaired or blind
- · 80% of visual impairment worldwide can be cured or prevented
- · 9 out of 10 people with visual impairment live in developing countries
- · Individuals with vision loss often have to give up their jobs or other income generating activities
- · Over 12 million children worldwide have visual impairment that can be improved with glasses
To keep with TOMS ethos, when you purchase TOMS Eyewear, the company will provide eye care to an individual in need. That’s an amazing thing. Government can’t shut that down.
