And the winner is… the Blood and Sand cocktail.
It’s Oscar night and this old Hollywood cocktail is perfect for this golden evening. Making its first appearance in 1922, Blood and Sand was a tribute to the Rudolph Valentino movie of the same name. Later, the drink turned up in the 1930′s Savoy Cocktail Book; its one of the few classic cocktails made with scotch.
This drink has something to offer the masculine and the feminine. A hardy scotch, sweet sand colored liquor, and the fruits of orange and cherry.
Blood and Sand Cocktail
3/4 oz scotch whiskey
3/4 oz sweet vermouth
1/4 oz cherry brandy
1 1/2 oz orange juice
Shake over ice cubes, pour into a coupe glass and garnish with a cherry and orange peel.
Tip your glass to Valentino, sip, and enjoy.
