5. Playa de Ses Illetes in Formentera, Spain (nudist)

What makes it extra-jaw-dropping? For decades this has been Formentera’s fashion beach where party animals go for day trips from Ibiza after a long night of rocking it out at the clubs. And oh, most of Formentera’s beaches are unofficially nudists by the way.

6. Cala Mariolu in Sardinia, Italy

What makes it extra-jaw-dropping? It’s one of the few places in the Mediterranean where loggerhead sea turtles go to lay their eggs. Um, they should just change the name to Loggerhead Beach instead?

9. Navagio Beach in Zakynthos, Greece

What makes it extra-jaw-dropping? It’s history. Navagio derives the name “Shipwreck” from a boat named Panagiotis that wrecked in 1983 in the cove while transporting cigarettes. I wouldn’t mind being shipwrecked in this place. Who’s with me?

10. Praia da Marinha in Algarve, Portugal

10 praia da marinha algarve portugal

What makes it extra-jaw-dropping? Those beautiful cliffs have been quite ubiquitous on Portugal’s tourism campaigns and for good reason. Did you?

17. Viareggio in Versilia, Italy

17 viareggio versilia italy

What makes it extra-jaw-dropping? Renowned for its Italian Art Nouveau architecture, the Tuscan beach town of Viareggio is again in vogue. There is 15-kilometer-long beach that goes from Forte dei Marmi in the north to Viareggio in the south. I fell in love with the Tuscan Riviera when I went here last summer. The photo is taken at Bagno Arizona in Viareggio.

18. Elafonissi Beach in Crete, Greece

18 Elafonissi Beach Crete Greece

What makes it extra-jaw-dropping? The sand of Elafonissi Beach is white, but in many places it is pinkish due to the thousands of broken seashells it contains.

Have you been to any of these beaches?
